SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel baseball team finished a split with College of the Ozarks on Tuesday afternoon falling 5-3 in game one and winning the second game 9-3 in non-conference action.
After College of the Ozarks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning Evangel rallied with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 advantage.
Jordan Yates double to center field to start the inning for the Crusaders. Yates would score on a Noah Suiter RBI single to start the scoring. Yates finished 3 for 4 in the game to lead Evangel as Jason Jarrell later picked up an RBI.
The Bobcats would battle back to tie the game in the third with two runs and take the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs. Evangel was unable to rally back leaving nine on base in the loss.
Mason Baur scattered six hits going four innings in the start. Baur struck out four as only three of the five runs were earned before Levi Loughridge tossed the final three innings. Loughridge recorded five strikeouts and two hits in three innings of scoreless work.
Collan Thrasher earned the win in a complete game effort for the Bobcats scattering 11 hits and allowing just the three runs. Thrasher tallied five strikeouts and walked none to earn the win.
Evangel jumped out to an early lead in the second game with a pair of runs in each of the first two innings. Both runs in the second came with two outs as the Crusaders jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
College of the Ozarks added a run in the third inning before the Crusaders answered with two in the fourth inning to lead 6-1. Evangel tacked on insurance runs in the sixth inning thanks to a Jose Vargas triple that cleared the bases.
Austin Dill earned the win as he scattered five hits and struck out two while allowing just one run. Zach Johnston pitched three innings of scoreless relief where he allowed just one hit. Tyler Collison pitched the seventh for Evangel to finish the game.
Evangel hosts Clarke on Friday for the start of Heart of America Athletic Conference play followed by a Saturday double-header against Mount Mercy. Both games are scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
