SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel University head football coach, Chuck Hepola, has announced the addition of two former players to the coaching staff for the 2018 season.
Former All-American, Robb Richardson ('05) and Danny Sweet ('06) have joined the Crusader staff as fall camp started on Monday morning. Richardson will coach the linebackers while Sweet will oversee the tight ends.
Richardson returns to Evangel where he was an all-American linebacker for the Crusaders in 2005 finishing with 4.0 sacks and 9.5 tackles for a loss during his senior season. Richardson also earned all-conference honors helping Evangel to an appearance in the NAIA National Playoffs and a Conference Championship.
He got his start in coaching after graduation at Willard High School, followed by a brief stint at Bolivar High School. Prior to returning to the Ozarks, Richardson worked with the defense and special teams at NCAA DIII Monmouth College in Illinois.
Before returning to Evangel, Sweet was the offensive coordinator at Springfield Central since 2014 where he also coached the offensive line. Before joining the Bulldogs, Sweet worked with both the offensive and defensive lines at Willard High School from 2010 to 2014.
Sweet got his start in coaching in 2010 as a graduate assistant at Evangel where he graduated with his master's degree in educational leadership in 2013. Before coaching, he was a four-year letterman for the Crusaders on the gridiron and was a team captain in 2008.
He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Evangel in the fall of 2010.
