OLATHE, Kan. – A heartbreaker for the Evangel men's basketball team Wednesday night saw MidAmerica Nazarene hit a three-pointer with three seconds left holding on for a 74-71 victory.
Cade Coffman came up with a big block with 1:03 left in the game and then answered with a three-pointer with 42 seconds left in the game to tie it at 69-69. Thirty seconds later Coffman would draw a foul and make a pair of free throws to pull the game even for the 10th time at 71-71 with 12 seconds left.
The Pioneers answered as Trey Brown drilled a deep three-pointer with three seconds left giving MidAmerica Nazarene the three-point lead, 74-71 and the win.
Clark Brewington helped pull Evangel back into the game after the Pioneers built an 11 point lead. Brewington finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss going 4-of-7 from behind the arc.
Evangel bested MNU in nearly every category, however, 18 turnovers were too much to overcome as the Pioneers also added 12 steals.
Evangel continues road action on Saturday heading north to No. 17 Peru State. Tipoff from Peru, Nebraska is scheduled for 4 p.m.
