SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A dominating second quarter helped the Evangel women's basketball team roll past Stephens, 98-52, Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
The Crusaders outscored Stephens 28-7 as Mackenzie Farmer knocked down a jumper to start a 17-0 run over through the 4:59 mark of the quarter. Farmer finished with 11 points and four assists off the bench as Evangel got 51 points along from its bench.
Thirteen players scored and 14 Crusaders saw at least three minutes in the win. Defense helped Evangel lock down Stephens, holding the visitors to just 19 field goals and forcing 25 turnovers.
Sydnee Garrett led Evangel with a game-high 22 points as she added five boards. Lexie Vaught added 11 points and six rebounds while Brianna Vogts tallied 16 points for Evangel. Shelby Roder added six assists and three steals to her three points as the Crusaders finished with 20 assists as a team.
Evangel out-rebounded Stephens, 56-36, and finished 12 of 17 from the free throw line to help seal the win.
Mariah Brisco finished with 21 points to lead the Stars, while Lauren Harris added 11 points and six boards.
Evangel continues home action Saturday against Park University. Tipoff from the Ashcroft Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
