KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Evangel University Athletic Department was honored as a Silver Five-Star institution by the NAIA for its commitment to character-driven competition by being named a Five-Star Award winner when the NAIA Champions of Character scorecards were released Wednesday.
There are three tiers to the Five-Star Award program: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Evangel was named a Silver Five-Star award winner for the 2018-19 academic school year.
Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition, and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.
"Our student-athletes and coaches at Evangel truly drive this honor as it reflects who they are and what they represent," said Director of Athletics Dr. Dennis McDonald. "To be honored by the NAIA is a tremendous honor and to earn the honor in consecutive years means that our athletes have consistently demonstrated the traits of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
