TEXARKANA, TEXAS – Evangel baseball stutters in opening day series dropping both games to Texas A&M – Texarkana.

Game One
The Crusaders came out swinging in their first game of the 2020 season, but weren't able to get the timely hits that drove in runs. Evangel outhit the Eagles 7-6, but left five on base, while scoring one run. The lone Crusader run came after Jordan Yates singled and came around to score on a sac fly to shallow right by Preston Allmand.

The Eagles scored three of their runs in the third and one in the sixth.

Bret Hoffman got the start on the bump and pitched a complete game. He gave up four runs on six hits, striking out four and walking two.

Game Two
Again, the Crusaders bats were held in check until the sixth inning when they scored twice. Nathan Lamb started off the inning with a walk, then Patrick Gaul singled to right and Lamb came around to score after an error by the right fielder. Gaul advanced to third and then scored on Stephen Belcher's groundout to short.

Unfortunately, those two runs were not enough to win the game, as the Eagles scored two runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Levi Loughridge got the start on the mound for the Crusaders. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four runs off five hits, while walking two and striking out seven. Zach Johnston came in relief with two outs in the fifth. He pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two runs off four hits and striking out one.

Defensively, the Crusaders committed three errors in the game.
