Strong Pitching Gives Evangel Baseball Split at College of the Ozarks

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The Evangel baseball team split a double-header Tuesday at College of the Ozarks taking game one 3-1, before falling 4-0 in the second game.

Game 1
Evangel jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Patrick Gaul singled to start the game and scored just two batters later on a Jordan Yates RBI single.

Noah Suiter would also score on a balk in the inning as Gaul finished 3 for 3 in game one.

The Crusaders would score their third run in the fourth inning on a C of O error to push its lead to 3-0. Evangel would hold the Bobcats scoreless through the first six innings before scratching across a run in the bottom of the seventh.

The CofO bats were held in check by Bret Hoffman who went all seven innings and allowed just four hits and the one run to earn the win. Hoffman struck out two and walked two after a solid performance on the mound.

Evangel out-hit CofO 7-4 and left 11 runners on base in the win.

Game 2
The Crusaders were unable to pick up a timely hit in the second game as the Bobcats shutout Evangel 4-0.

Evangel and CofO both tallied six hits each, however, the Crusaders left nine men on base and struck out eight times.

Gaul and Stephen Belcher led the charge as both players went 2 for 3 in the loss.

Hunter Hancock was unable to escape the third inning going 2.2 innings pitched and allowing three runs. However, all three were unearned coming in the bottom of the third for CofO.

Austin Dill went 1.1 innings and allowed the other Bobcat run in the fourth inning as he allowed just two hits out of the bullpen. Levi Loughridge pitched the final two innings as he held CofO hitless with three strikeouts.

Up Next

Evangel returns home to start a 10-game homestand starting Friday in a four-game series with Lincoln College from Illinois. First pitch on Friday and Saturday is scheduled for 12 p.m.
