Valor Falls to William Woods in Nine Inning Game on Tuesday

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel took on the Owls of William Woods on Tuesday for their home opener, looking to extend their winning streak to four games. William Woods used a big third inning to help claim the victory over the Valor, 12-3.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel (8-3) recorded six hits over the nine inning ballgame, but were outperformed on offense as the Owls finished their day with 12 hits, three being home runs.

  • The Owls Caleb Caraker claimed the victory for William Woods, as Dill (3-1) recorded the loss after only tossing a frame, where he gave up two earned runs.

  • The Valor were able to get experience for their bullpen/rotation, using six pitchers throughout the game. Both Levi Loughridge and Wyatt Keplar pitched multiple innings.

  • Nathan Lamb recorded two hits, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored for EU. Mason Hansen and Grant Kosanke both recorded multiple hit games as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • EU's pitching struggled out of the gate, allowing two walks, both of which scored on a subsequent single by WWU's Jordan Smith to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the inning.

  • William Woods began their pitching outing struggling as well, but EU could not advance Lamb and Athanie Leeviraphan who got on base by being hit by a pitch.

  • Zach Johnston pitched himself out of trouble in the second, after allowing the first two batters to single. Only one WWU run scored in the second off of a sac bunt by Marcus Gonzalez.

  • Loughridge came in for Johnston in the third, after giving up three hits and two walks, allowing William Woods to score two. An error in the inning also allowed two more runs to score as the Owls blew the game open, leading 7-0.

  • Loughridge finished both the third and fourth allowing no runs and only one hit.

  • The Valor recorded their first hit of the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth, with a Kosanke single to left field.

  • The Valor offense finally struck for runs in the fifth inning after Lamb singled and Hansen doubled, scoring Lamb. Leeviraphan scored Hansen on a groundout immediately after.

  • Keplar shut down the Owls, striking out four and only allowing one hit over the fifth, sixth, and seventh.

  • Lamb recorded the final run scored for the Valor on Tuesday, singling to center field and scoring Jeremy Vickers.

  • The Owls were able to extend their lead in the eighth and ninth thanks to three home runs, two by Isaiah Gibbs.

NOTABLE

  • Lamb recorded his first loss on the mound this season, only his 11th loss in his five year career.

  • Kosanke recorded his 52nd career hit in the ninth inning.

  • Leeviraphan added another RBI to his total in his first year. Athanie leads the team with 12 RBIs.
