MARSHALL, Mo. – On Saturday, Evangel Baseball wrapped up their weekend doubleheader with the Vikings of Missouri Valley, looking to claim the series with two wins. In game one, the Valor led for the majority of the game, but a late surge by the Vikings gave Missouri Valley an 8-4 win. In the final game, Missouri Valley quickly took a lead as the Valor offense grew stagnant resulting in an EU loss, 7-1.

Although leading for the first four innings in game one, Evangel came up short when Missouri Valley used a big fifth inning to grab an 8-4 lead they maintained to the finish.

The Valor struggled in game two, ultimately falling 7-1 after falling into an offensive slump.
HOW IT HAPPENED

In game one, Evangel found offense in the second inning when Dalton Cook walked and subsequently scored on a Brock Wendlandt double.

The Valor found additional runs in the third inning to extend their lead. Mason Hansen walked and advanced home to score on an Athanie Leeviraphan single, a wild pitch and an error. Noah Suiter hit a sacrifice fly to score Leeviraphan and Wendlandt continued his big day on offense by homering, giving EU a 4-0 lead.

Missouri Valley narrowed the Valor lead to just a single run by hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Vikings tied the game up on a sacrifice fly to left field.

Missouri Valley continued their string of innings with a run scored when they scored four runs in the fifth inning on a two run home run, an error, and a wild pitch.

Evangel fell short of generating any offense in the sixth and seventh inning, falling 8-4.

Gage Harris singled and was scored after Missouri Valley walked three consecutive batters, giving Evangel their lone run of the second game.

The Vikings tied the game up in the second inning of game two and grabbed a lead in the third on a double.

Missouri Valley continued scoring in game two by adding an additional run in the fourth inning, giving the Vikings a 3-1 lead.

The Vikings took advantage of an Evangel miscue in the sixth inning, extending their lead to 7-1.

Evangel could not muster any offense in the final inning of the game, falling 7-1.
NOTABLE

Wendlandt had an impressive day at the plate in game one, hitting his first home run of the season and driving in two Evangel runs.

Harris played well throughout the day, finishing his afternoon 4-8.

The Valor offense generated just 11 hits throughout Saturday afternoon.

Evangel will compete in their final road weekend doubleheader of the season when they take on the Wildcats of Baker in Baldwin City, Kansas, on Friday and Saturday (Apr. 22/23).
