6th-Ranked William Penn Ends Evangel Men Win Streak

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Evangel men's basketball team was unable to keep pace Saturday with hot-shooting and 6th-ranked William Penn falling 113-84 in Heart Conference action.

The Crusaders hung with the high-scoring Statesmen until a 13-1 run gave William Penn an 11-point lead at the midway point in the first half. William Penn would build its lead to 54-39 at halftime and then extend it to 20 at the 14:448 mark of the second half.

Evangel shot just 38 percent from the field in the first half while William Penn shot 51 percent. The Crusaders did knock down nine three-pointers, however, just three came in the second half as the Statesmen also out-rebounded Evangel 51-32.

Cade Coffman led the Crusaders with 18 points, while Josh Pritchett added 16 points off the bench. Nate Davis and Edriel Martinborough also finished in double figures with 13 and 12 points each.

Karmari Newman led William Penn with 25 points as the Oakland University transfer finished 8 of 13 from the field and made six three-pointers.

Evangel returns home Thursday for the second meeting in the Rib Crib Highway 65 Series with College of the Ozarks. Tipoff from the Ashcroft Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
