OLATHE, Kan. – The Evangel men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with MidAmerica Nazarene Wednesday falling 98-68 in Heart Conference action.
The Crusaders fell to 9-8 overall and 5-6 in the Heart while MNU improved to 12-5 overall and 8-3 in league play.
A hot-shooting MNU team blistered the nets finishing at a 55 percent shooting clip and add14 three-pointers. Evangel shot 44 percent from the field but struggled at the free-throw line going just 8 for 20 and was out-rebounded 42-30.
Nate Davis led the way for Evangel with 22 points and going 3 of 7 from the three-point line. Davis made all but three of the Crusaders' three-pointers in the loss finishing 6 of 19 as a team behind the arc.
Cade Coffman chipped in 12 points and seven boards to lead the Crusaders in rebounding as he was the only other Evangel player in double figures.
Five players for MNU finished in double figures, led by Patrick Cairns who poured in 24 points. Trey Brown added 15 points and four boards, while Dante Scroggins tallied 14 points and nine rebounds.
Evangel returns to the Ashcroft Center on Saturday to host Missouri Valley. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
