SPRINGFIELD, Mo.  – A second-half effort helped the Evangel men's basketball team rally past Missouri. Valley 77-67 Saturday afternoon in Heart Conference action.

The Crusaders improved to 10-8 overall and worked back to 6-6 in league play, while Missouri Valley fell to 9-8 overall and 6-6 in the Heart creating a three-way tie that includes Baker.

Evangel erased a 10-point deficit with a 10-2 run in the second half. Cade Coffman caught a back-door pass for a layup to start the run as the sophomore finished with a double-double adding 14 points and 10 boards.

Coffman was one of five Crusaders to finish in double figures as Evangel blistered the nets in the second half shooting 64 percent from the field.

Senior Clark Brewington led the group with 15 points as he went 7 of 8 at the free-throw line.

Nate Davis, Ike Egwu joined Coffman with 14 points, while Davis added seven assists for the Crusaders. Justice Bowers came off the bench to finish with 10 points, all coming in the first half.

Coffman got another lay-in with 6:09 left in the game to put Evangel up 63-61. The Crusaders would not relinquish the lead from there starting a 12-2 run over the next four minutes.

Evangel would go 4-4 from the free-throw line in the final 1:14 of the game to help keep the Vikings at bay with the 10-point lead.

Missouri Valley was led by D'Angelo Young-Parker with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Evangel starts the second half of Heart Conference action on Wednesday night at Graceland. The Crusaders are looking for a season sweep of the Yellowjackets after a 90-75 win in Springfield back in November. Tipoff from Lamoni, Iowa is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
