No. 3 William Penn Snaps Win Streak for Evangel Men

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's basketball fell 101-74 Saturday afternoon to No. 3 William Penn in Heart Conference play.

William Penn (19-3, 13-3) came out hot in the first half and built an 11-point lead before Evangel (13-9, 9-7) battled back to take the lead with 6:03 left before halftime.

Cade Coffman knocked down a three-pointer on the win to put Evangel up 29-28. Coffman would finish with 19 points and five boards in the loss.

However, William Penn continued to answer leading 50-41 at halftime. The Statemen would continue their hot shooting the second half going 55 percent from the field and outscoring the Crusaders 42-20 in the paint.

Evangel finished just 10 of 34 from the three-point arc and was two free throws shy of a season-low going 12 of 16. The Crusaders were also out-rebounded 54-29 in the loss.

Edriel Martinborough added 19 points and five assists, while Nate Davis also finished in double figures with 11.

William Penn was led by 25 points from Dexter Hood who added 10 rebounds. Kevion Blaylock also finished with a double-double adding 19 points and 12 boards.

Evangel continues home action Wednesday night against Central Methodist. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
