SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A cold night from the field saw the Evangel men's basketball team fall 79-66, to Central Methodist Thursday night in Heart Conference action.

The Crusaders battled back from a cold start, taking a 33-32 lead into the locker room at halftime. However, the lead would be short-lived as Central Methodist started the half with a 16-4 run taking a 48-37 lead at the 14-minute mark of the second half.

Evangel struggled offensively behind the arc going just 3 of 18 from distance while shooting 43 percent from the field in the game. CMU made 14 three-pointers and shot 60 percent from the field in the second half to lead by as many as 18.

Nate Davis led Evangel with 23 points, while Edriel Martinborough added 14 points in the loss. Cade Coffman and Ike Egwu also finished in double figures with 10 points each.

The Eagles were led by James Byrd who made six three-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 points. Josh Robinson added 13 points and 11 assists to finish with a double-double.

Evangel heads to Nebraska on Saturday looking to get back on the winning track against Peru State. Tipoff from Peru, Nebraska is scheduled for 4 p.m.
