Evangel Unable to Finish Comeback at Peru State

PERU, Neb. – A second-half rally came up short Saturday for the Evangel men's basketball team falling 86-72 at Peru State in Heart Conference action.

Evangel jumped out to an early lead before Peru State battle back before the Bobcats ended the half on a 12-5 run. The Crusaders dropped their third straight game and ninth in a row to Peru State as Evangel fell to 9-9 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

After trailing by 22 in the second half, Evangel cut the Peru State lead to 12 but was unable to finish off the rally. The Bobcats knocked down 17 three-pointers and shot 60 percent in the first half from the field and out-rebounded Evangel 37-27.

Evangel shot just 38 percent from the field in the loss as Nate Davis led the Crusaders with 20 points and five assists. Davis posted his second straight 20-point game as Cade Coffman added 18 points and seven boards.

Peru State was led by Henry Tanksley and Kendrick Robinson with 16 points each. Robinson finished with a double-double adding 10 boards.

Evangel heads back on the road Wednesday at Benedictine. The Crusaders look for a season sweep of the third-place Ravens with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
