SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A career night from Clark Brewington helped the Evangel men's basketball team hold off Culver-Stockton 92-86 Saturday afternoon at the Ashcroft Center.
Brewington erupted with 21 second-half points including five three-pointers in the final 20 minutes to help the Crusaders get back to .500 in the conference standings. Brewington finished the day with nine three-pointers, one shy of the school record single-game record, and a career-high 35 points.
Playing with a short bench, Evangel and Culver-Stockton both shot 57 percent from the field in the second half. However, the Crusaders fought off the Wildcats after they tied the game with 6:02 left at 75-75.
Cade Coffman broke the tie and started a 9-0 Evangel run. Coffman finished with 15 points and seven boards in the win.
Evangel would go 16 of 17 from the free-throw line to help seal the victory, while Brewington's performance was made even more impressive as the senior finished 9 of 11 from behind the arc.
Culver-Stockton was led by 28 points from Thaddeus Newby who was 7 of 10 from behind the three-point line.
Evangel continues home action Wednesday against MidAmerica Nazarene. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. for Weller Elementary night at the Ashcroft Center.
