SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's soccer team opened the season by blanking Bacone, 4-0.

The first half was a back and forth affair, with neither team able to find much in the way of shots on goal. Evangel was able to find the breakthrough when Tobi Mustapha was taken down from behind inside the Warriors penalty box. A penalty kick was awarded and Vinicius Albino slotted it home for the first goal of the game.

After halftime, the Crusaders were able to take more control of the game and found the back of the net three times. The first of the three goals came when Drew Flippin stole the ball on the offensive end and outran the Warrior defenders before fooling the keeper and scoring the second goal of the game. Ricardo Aquino scored the second goal of the half when he tapped in a header from Caleb Dix off the Ian Creech corner kick. The final goal of the game came from Creech who slotted home a wide-open pass from Dix.

"It's a good start to the season, there's definitely room for improvement and things to work on, but will we will take goals from 4 different players and the clean sheet to start the year," head coach Jeff Reinold said following the game.

The Crusaders scored four goals off 17 shots (ten shots on goal). Flippin led Evangel with four shots (two on goal), while Creech also tallied two shots on goal. Dix had two assists on the day.

Anthony Morales and Jacob Holman split time in the goal. Holman recorded five saves off eight shots (five on goal).
