Shorthanded Valor Men's Soccer Team Falls to CMU on Wednesday

Location: Fayette, Mo. (Davis Field)

FAYETTE, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer traveled to Central Methodist on Wednesday evening, looking to upset the third ranked team in the nation. After hanging around with CMU, the Eagles offense found their groove and was too much for the Valor defense, as the Eagles won, 8-0.

Evangel came into tonight's matchup shorthanded due to injury. The Valor were without starters Junior Barboza, Chris Tadeo, and Matheus Porzelt for their second consecutive match and had seven other players returning from injuries and playing limited minutes. Although without several starters, the Valor looked solid from the start, fighting off the CMU offensive pace. The Valor were unable to hold the defensive line for long in the first half as the Eagles put up five goals in the first half to take a 5-0 lead.

The Valor came out quick in the second half and nearly caught the Eagles sleeping on defense. Andrew Flippin found a solid opportunity for a goal, but his shot ended up being high. Flippin's shot was Evangel's lone shot of the match as the Valor offense could not generate much being short handed and without key players. After the final 45 minutes were played, CMU had captured an 8-0 victory.

  • Evangel was outshot by CMU in the loss.

  • Flippin recorded the only Valor shot of the evening, kicking off the second half.

  • Morales finished his evening with three saves while Zeke Brown found time in goal, recording two saves of his own.

Evangel will take on Culver-Stockton on Saturday (Oct. 1) evening at 5:00 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
