SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer returned home to take on the Vikings of Grand View on Saturday, as they honored Law Enforcement and First Responders before the game. The Valor were able to put a goal on the board, but fell 5-1.
In the first half, Grand View got on the board in the first minute on a penalty shot in the box. Evangel was able to record a shot from Andrew Flippin, but could not score in the first half, giving GVU a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.
After the break, the Vikings came out firing, scoring two consecutive goals in the span of five minutes. Evangel's Igor Ovcarevic nearly put Evangel on the board, but the GVU goalkeeper recorded the save in the 58th minute. The Vikings recorded their fourth goal of the game and Evangel knew they needed to respond. A good entry pass for the Valor and rebound from a Dean McConnell shot gave Josh Orr the first goal of his season, making it a 4-1 game. Grand View recorded the final goal of the game quickly after, taking a 5-1 win over Evangel.
Evangel was outshot, 12-2, on goal in the loss.
Orr recorded his first goal of the season off a McConnell assist.
