Tough Second Half Proves Detrimental in Valor Men's Soccer Loss to Park

Tough Second Half Proves Detrimental in Valor Men's Soccer Loss to Park

The Basics

Score: Evangel 1, Park 4 | Box Score

Record: Evangel (1-12-1, 0-10), Park (7-6, 4-5)

Location: Parkville, Mo. (Julian Field)

PARKVILLE, Mo. – Evangel Men's Soccer traveled north to take on the Park Pirates on Wednesday night. After a strong first half of play where the Valor gave up just one tough goal, Park found a strong offensive rhythm in the second half to score a couple more goals, taking a 4-1 win over Evangel.

Evangel and Park spent the beginning minutes of the first half trading possession until Park found an opportunity at the 13 minute mark, scoring a goal on a cross in the box that was tough to play for Anthony Morales in goal. Evangel responded by nearly scoring a shot of their own when Rem Harmsworth had a chance off a feed from Andrew Flippin, but the Park goalkeeper found the stop. Evangel could not muster any additional shots in the first half, as the Pirates took a 1-0 lead into the half.

Park came out quick in the second half, taking advantage of Valor offensive mistakes to add additional goals to their final total. After scoring three more goals, the Valor found a few opportunities from Harmsworth and Igor Ovcarevic, but their shots were turned aside. As the minutes wound down, it appeared Evangel would be shut out, but a strong attack in the final minute and a half of the game saw Evangel's Ovcarevic score a goal to ruin the Park keeper's chance at a clean sheet, making the final score, 4-1.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel was outshot, 20-6, in the loss.

  • Ovcarevic scored his second goal of the season in the loss, tying Dean McConnell for the team lead.

  • Zeke Brown finished with the team lead in saves with three.
