CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Evangel Men's Soccer traveled north to take on the Mount Mercy Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. A tough Mount Mercy defense stopped the Valor offense, leading to a 4-0 victory in favor of the Mustangs.

Mount Mercy recorded a barrage of shots in the first half as Anthony Morales racked up save after save. The Valor offense struggled to possess the ball and the Mustangs found themselves up 1-0 in the 21st minute after Evangel could not clear the ball. Igor Ovcarevic produced Evangel's first shot attempt of the afternoon just before the 24 minute mark, but was stopped by the goalkeeper. Mount Mercy added two additional goals in the half to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Mustangs extended their lead to 4-0 immediately after halftime, but Evangel's Andrew Flippin began to provide a spark for the Valor. Flippin recorded several shot opportunities in the half, but could not get any to hit the back of the net. The Valor played a solid second half of defense, letting up just the early goal, but could not muster much on offense as the Mustang goalie finished with a clean sheet and the Mustangs took the victory, 4-0.

  • Flippin finished with four total shots, two of which were on goal.

  • Ovcarevic also finished with two shots on goal in the loss.

  • Morales recorded five saves in goal as Zeke Brown added two saves.

Evangel will return home to wrap up conference play next Friday (Oct. 28) at 5:30 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
