Results

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Evangel men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their Indoor season at the Pitt State NAIA/JUCO Invitational Saturday, as freshmen Delaney Weimer and Joey Sylvester headlined a good showing for two short-handed squads.

Weimer received a qualification for nationals in the 60m dash with a time of 7.81 seconds and Sylvester broke an Evangel Indoor record in Pole Vault with a height of 3.85 meters.

"We had a great opening meet," Evangel head track and field coach Brandon Staley said. "I'm really proud of our kids and how they performed. There were a lot of great individual performances. We set a good foundation, but have a lot of room left for growth."

Highlights

  • Weimer placed eighth in the 60m dash (7.81), giving her a qualification for nationals in her first collegiate race.

  • Sylvester broke the Evangel Indoor Pole Vault record with a mark of 3.85 meters, good for third overall. The record was previously held by Dexter Henderson, set in 2007.

  • Brothers CJ Anoa'i (12.94m) and Will Anoa'i (12.78m) placed eighth and ninth respectively in shot-put.

  • Nash Grantham placed fifth in the high jump, with a distance of 1.85 meters.

  • Matthew Kellerstrass jumped 6.57 meters in the long jump, good for a fifth place ranking.

  • Jessica Sheil turned in a triple jump of 9.54 meters to finish seventh.

  • Skylar Adams continued her long-distance success from the fall, finishing seventh in the mile run (5:38.93)

  • As a team, the Evangel men (15) finished 11th in the 19-team field, while the women (5) checked in at 16th.
