FAYETTE, Mo. – The Evangel men's and women's track and field teams opened their outdoor season on Saturday (Mar. 19) at the CMU Open in Fayette, Missouri.

Several first place finishes and overall top 10 finishes headlined a quality start to the outdoor season for both teams.

Highlights

  • Grant DeWitt claimed first place in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:01.89.

  • Jacob Gillies tied for first in the high jump event with a height of 1.95 meters.

  • Kellen Freeman placed second overall in the javelin throw with a distance of 48 meters.

  • William Boivin finished his afternoon with a second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (15.15) and a fifth place finish in the 200 meter dash (22.70)

  • Delaney Weimer rounded out second place finishes in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.41 seconds. Weimer also placed second in the 200 meter dash (25.96).

  • In the 800 meter run, Skylar Adams finished in third with a time of 2:32.47. Adams recorded a time of 5:14.57 in the 1500 meter run, good for 10th place.

  • Nash Grantham finished in third in the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters and also placed sixth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.39.

  • Matthew Kellerstrass recorded a third place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.10 seconds. Kellerstrass also took part in the long jump where he finished in fifth with a distance of 6.20 meters.

  • Campbell Nichols finished in third with a time of 2:04.69 in the 800 meter dash.

  • Camille Stevenson competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing in fifth with a time of 1:04.60.

  • In the longest running event of the day, the 3000 meter run, Cayce Edney finished in fifth (9:17.38) and Graham Miller placed 10th (9:20.13).

  • Ellie Schroeder took part in the high jump event, finishing in fifth with a jump of 1.45 meters.

  • Jessica Sheil was the only member of the Valor to compete in the triple jump, where she finished in sixth with a distance of 10.24 meters.

  • Brianna Hohmann rounded out top 10 individual performances by placing tenth in the discus throw with a distance of 30.87 meters.

  • The men's team competed in three separate relay races. The 4x100 team finished in first with a time of 43.89. The 4x800 meter team placed second with a time of 8:32.43 and the 4x400 meter team finished second as well with a final time of 3:29.19.

  • CMU did not record team placements, but the men's team finished with a score of 86 while the women recorded a score of 33.

"We had a great opening outdoor meet and are very excited about where we are coming in at this season," Valor track head coach Brandon Staley stated. "This was a great conference builder for our team and provided a good foundation for the season to build on."
