Valor Track and Field Shows Out at Culver-Stockton Open on Saturday

CANTON, Mo. – The Evangel men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Culver-Stockton Open in Canton on Saturday afternoon.

The Valor showed out in Canton, performing exceptionally well by crushing PRs, breaking two Evangel school records, as well as Matthew Kellerstrass qualifying to run at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in May.


  • Kellerstrass placed third in three events on Saturday, the long jump (6.29 meters, PR), the 200 meter dash (22.06 seconds, PR), and the 100 meter dash (10.40 seconds, PR), where he smashed the "A" standard to qualify for NAIA nationals and broke the Evangel school record for fastest 100 meter time.

  • William Boivin placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a PR time of 55.04, breaking the Evangel school record, and was followed by Nash Grantham who finished with a fifth place PR time of 59.51.

  • Skylar Adams placed first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:28.24.

  • Ellie Schroeder finished second overall in the high jump with a PR jump of 1.50 meters.

  • In the high jump for the men's team, three athletes recorded top 10 finishes. Jacob Gillies led the charge with a second place PR jump of 2.00 meters with Logan Rodgers finishing just behind in third with a PR jump of 1.88 meters. Grantham finished in fourth with his jump of 1.86 meters.

  • Joseph Sylvester hit his PR of 4.11 meters in the pole vault on Saturday, placing second overall.

  • In the 800 meter dash, Evangel's men came away with several top 10 finishes. Grant DeWitt led the Valor with a second place finish of 2:00.58, with Campbell Nichols just behind in fourth with a time of 2:04.05. Eric Patterson claimed a fifth place finish of 2:04.17 and Isaiah Flores placed ninth with a time of 2:10.48.

  • The Valor men's 4x100 team placed second with an overall time of 44.28 seconds.

  • In the 1500 meter run, Graham Miller placed third, with a time of 4:17.24, followed by Flores who finished in ninth with a time of 4:37.90.

  • Camille Stevenson placed third in the 400 meter dash, with a mark of 1:03.29, and was followed by Abigail Good who finished in sixth with a time of 1:03.67

  • Cadin Ferren hit a PR mark of 6.19 meters in the long jump, placing fourth overall.

  • Will Anoa'i threw the shot put a PR distance of 13.75 meters, placing fourth overall.

  • Kellen Freeman threw the Javelin a distance of 42.50 meters, giving himself a fourth place finish for the Valor.

  • Jessica Sheil finished in fifth in the triple jump on Saturday, with a PR distance of 10.36 meters.

  • In the 200 meter dash, Stevenson ran a PR fifth place finish of 27.87 seconds and was followed closely by McKenzie Robbins, who finished seventh with a PR time of 28.62 seconds.

  • In the long 5000 meter run, Patterson finished in sixth with a time of 17:10.21. Evan Espinoza recorded a 10th place finish in the 5000 with a time of 18:01.13.

  • Nate Swofford hit a PR mark of 22.58 seconds in the 200 meter dash, finishing in eighth place.


Evangel will head to Kirksville, Missouri, to take part in the Truman State Outdoor Open on Thursday, April 28th.
