Valor Track and Field Adds Another Nationals Qualifier After Strong Showing at Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Evangel men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Truman State Twilight Invite on Thursday afternoon, looking to build off their previous successful meet in Canton.

The Valor performed well in Kirksville, as the Men's team took home second place and William Boivin broke the B standard in the 400 meter hurdles, qualifying for NAIA nationals in May. The women's team finished in sixth, highlighted by a couple of second place finishes by Abigail Good and Jessica Sheil.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Boivin had a good day at the Truman State meet as he used a first place 53.91 second PR 400 meter hurdles to qualify for nationals by beating the "B" standard (54.65). Boivin also took home first place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.30.

  • Logan Rodgers brought home first place in the high jump with his mark of 1.87 meters.

  • In the 100 meter dash, the trio of Matthew Kellerstrass, David Farmer, and Josiah Kim, placed top 10 finishes. Kellerstrass recorded a first place time of 11.12, while Farmer ran a PR 11.73 fifth place finish, and Kim finished in 9th with a 12.14 finish.

  • Sheil recorded a second place finish in the triple jump with a length of 9.99 meters.

  • Good recorded a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.17, her PR in the event. Abigail also recorded a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.58 seconds, another PR for Good.

  • Nash Grantham performed well for Evangel on Thursday, coming away with a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles (58.00, PR) and also a fifth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (17.23).

  • Graham Miller and Cayce Edney placed second and third respectively in the 1500 meter run, with times of 4:11.00, Miller's PR, and 4:13.38.

  • Jared Spence and Campbell Nichols recorded second and fourth place finishes, respectively, in the 400 meter dash on Thursday. Spence's 51.90 second run was his PR, while Nichols ran a 53.64 in the new event.

  • Camille Stevenson placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.82.

  • Cadin Ferren recorded a 5.75 jump in the long jump, placing third overall.

  • In the women's high jump, Ellie Schroeder placed fourth with a mark of 1.40 meters.

  • Kellen Freeman and Adam Tyson recorded fifth and ninth place finishes in the Javelin, hitting 40.38 and 37.64 meters.

  • McKenzie Robbins placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.89 seconds.

  • Jared Spence (23.94), Kellerstrass (23.95), and David Farmer (24.33) finished right beside each other in the 200 meter dash, placing fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.

  • In the 800 meter run, Grant DeWitt, Campbell Nichols, and Eric Patterson all placed in the top 10. DeWitt's 1:58.14 PR run placed him in fifth, while Nichols recorded a 2:00.61 PR in eighth, and Patterson rounded out finishes with a PR ninth place run of 2:00.64.

  • In the long 3000 meter run, Evan Espinoza recorded a seventh place finish with a time of 9:37.18.

  • Adam Tyson rounded out top 10 finishes with a 10th place finish in the Discus throw with a distance of 35.52 meters, his PR.

QUOTABLE

"I'm super proud of our team this year. These athletes worked hard every day to achieve some big goals set in front of them," Evangel head coach Brandon Staley stated. "I'm very proud of William Boivin for finding a way to nationals in a new event. I'm excited to see how our team comes out next week and competes at the conference championships."
