Evangel Softball Stumbles in Double-Header vs Kansas Wesleyan

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel softball team stumbled Friday afternoon with a pair of setbacks to Kansas Wesleyan, 7-5 in extra innings, before a 9-1 loss in the second game.

Game One
Evangel battled back and forth with Kansas Wesleyan pushing the game to a 2-2 tie after runs in the second and third innings.

Both teams pushed three runs across in the sixth before a scoreless seventh inning sent the game to extras tied 5-5. Kansas Wesleyan led off the eighth with a triple to score the international tiebreaker runner before added another run for a 7-5 win.

Ali Raley and Brooke Perry each finished with a pair of hits in the loss to pace the offense.

Emma Hill went six innings in the start scattering 10 hits and striking out four before Bridget Rippe entered in the seventh. Rippe allowed four hits including the game-winning triple in the loss.

Game Two
The Crusaders struggled to find offense in the second game as the Coyotes out-hit Evangel 12-5. 

The middle of the order for Evangel came up with four of the five hits as Michelle Sheppard also scored a run and AJ Carpenter picked up the only RBI for the Crusaders.

Abby Emmitt, Taylor Mathis, and Josie Allcock all saw time in the circle as Allcock pitched two innings of relief allowing just two hits and no runs. Mathis added three strikeouts in two innings of relief as well.

Kansas Wesleyan answered the Crusaders' only run from the bottom of the first with an eight-run second inning. The Coyotes added a run in the third as the lead stayed at eight runs giving the visitors a run-rule victory.

Evangel is scheduled to travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan Saturday for a double-header in Bartlesville, Okla. First pitch is scheduled for 1p .m.
