SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel softball team was swept by No. 19 Baker on Tuesday falling 3-1 in game one while the second game saw the Crusader fall, 11-3 in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

Game 1
The first game saw both pitchers lock in as Evangel starter Bridget Rippe came up just short of Baker's Olivia Brees. Rippe fell for just the second time this season after scattering five hits and allowing three runs.

However, the Baker starter tallied 13 strikeouts and held Evangel to just one hit in the game, a double to lead off the bottom of the third by Brooke Perry. Perry was one of six Crusaders to reach base as Brees walked five.

Perry scored the lone Evangel run in that third inning after a walk to Michelle Sheppard and a stolen base moved them into scoring position. AJ Carpenter would lift a sacrifice fly to left to score Perry as Evangel managed just two more base runners the remainder of the game.

Game 2
The second game saw both teams battle back and forth with Evangel taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Allison Davis. Davis scored Perry who had singled with one out.

Baker would take the lead with four runs in the third inning before the Crusaders mounted a comeback in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back-to-back singles from Carpenter, Perry, and Hailey Lange loaded the bases.

The Crusaders would score both runs on bases-loaded walks to Kami Holt and Cailey Barnes as game one starter Olivia Brees entered in relief. Evangel pulled within a run at 4-3 but wouldn't get any closer as Baker plated another four runs in the fourth on five hits and three errors.

The Wildcats added three more runs in the fifth to force the run-rule as Evangel came up empty in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Perry led the way offensively going 3-for-3 with two runs, while Lange and Davis each added two hits apiece for the Crusaders.

Evangel continues home action Friday and Saturday against Heart North Division opponents Culver-Stockton and William Penn. First pitch Friday against the Wildcats is scheduled for 2 p.m.
