ATCHISON, Kan. — The Evangel softball team dropped a Heart South Division double-header on Tuesday falling 2-1 in game one and 4-1 in the finale.

Game 1

Evangel and Benedictine locked in a pitchers' duel as Abby Emmitt came up just short in a three-hit loss. Emmitt struck out eight and walked just one but the two runs allowed were enough for the Ravens to hold on.

Michelle Sheppard and AJ Carpenter each recorded a pair of hits while Hailey Lange picked up the only Evangel RBI.

The Crusaders outhit the Ravens 6-3, but Benedictine scored the two go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on one hit and the lone error of the game.

Game 2

Evangel dropped the second game as two big innings for Benedictine was enough cushion for a 4-2 win.

The Crusaders lone run came in the top of the first inning when Sheppard scored a sacrifice bunt by Anah Noble. Jenna Halbrook had the only extra base hit for Evangel, a triple in the sixth.

However, she was one of 10 Crusaders left on base in the loss.

Bridget Rippe scattered nine hits over six innings and struck out four. She allowed just two earned runs as the offense was unable to complete a rally in the final six innings.

Evangel continues road action on Friday at Peru State followed by a trip to MidAmerica Nazarene on Saturday.
