SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel softball team saw its season come to an end Monday afternoon as they were unable to rally past MidAmerica Nazarene, 5-2, in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Tournament First Round.

The Crusaders fell behind early when the Pioneers took advantage of an early Evangel error. However, starter Bridget Rippe was able to work the error allowing only the one run and end the inning with the bases loaded.

MidAmerica Nazarene added to its lead in the second inning on a home run down the left field line by Emily Robinson. The ball broke just inside the foul pole as ruled by the umpires to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.

Evangel added a run in the bottom of the second inning when Josie Allcock scored Ali Raley from third. Raley led off the inning with a single helping Evangel out-hit MidAmerica 9-5.

The Crusaders got another run in the fifth inning but again left runners on base which totaled nine in the loss. AJ Carpenter, Kami Holt, and Jenna Halbrook all recorded two hits each in the loss.

Abby Emmitt tossed the final five innings in relief of Rippe as she allowed just three hits and one run. Emmitt reached 100 strikeouts for the season as she struck out three in the game.

Evangel ends its season at 23-24 overall falling in the first round of the Heart of America Softball Tournament.

Evangel will host an NAIA Opening Round at Killian Softball Stadium May 13-15, in addition to the 2019 NAIA Softball World Series, May 23-29. For more information on the 2019 NAIA Softball World Series visit
