COLUMBUS, Ga. – Looking to bounce back after being swept the day before, the Valor took on tough competition in Kentucky Christian, Lawrence Tech, and NAIA ranked No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan. The Valor prevailed against Lawrence Tech in dominant fashion, but were defeated by both Kentucky Christian and Indiana Wesleyan.
HIGHLIGHTS

The Knights of Kentucky Christian used a complete game from Ashton Blackburn to give the Knights the win in game one, 4-1.

Samantha Romano (1-0) pitched lights out in her lone appearance of the day, a complete game effort against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech. Romano finished her afternoon with seven strikeouts, only giving up three hits in the 8-0 win.

In the third game of the day, Evangel took on nationally ranked Indiana Wesleyan. The Wildcats stifled the Valor, 7-5, thanks to an offensive explosion in the first inning and insurance runs in the sixth.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Megan Stone kicked off game one against the Knights of Kentucky Christian by hitting a home run to left field to take a 1-0 lead.

Errors hurt the Valor in game one, as Evangel finished with four total errors, allowing two of the four runs scored.

Micaiah Cordell fanned 10 batters in game one, but a strong sixth inning proved detrimental to Evangel as Heistad and Ball of KCU found timely hits for the Knights.

In game two, Evangel found the offensive groove they had been missing all weekend. The Valor scored six runs in the span of the first two innings, knocking the Blue Devils starter out in the second inning after 1.1 innings of work.

Karlie Romines and Annslee Leeviraphan came up big in game two on offense. Romines finished her afternoon, 2-2, with a double, two walks, two runs scored, and an RBI. Leeviraphan went a perfect 3-3 with two runs scored, a double, and two RBIs.

Romano played a huge factor in the EU win, stifling the Blue Devils on offense in another great outing for the Cabot, Ark., native.

In the final game of the weekend, the Valor were ambushed in the first inning, giving up four runs off of two home run blasts.

Evangel was able to inch within two runs of the Wildcats twice, thanks to home runs by Valor players Ali Raley and Josie Allcock, but were shut down in the seventh by the IWU starter who pitched a complete game.
NOTABLE

Romano recorded her first win of the season and second complete game.

Allcock led Evangel with three RBIs throughout all games on Saturday, good for her 60th career RBI. Josie also recorded her eighth career home run.

Raley hit her 11th career home run and Stone recorded her second home run of the season in game one, the fifth of her career.
UP NEXT
Evangel will return home and take on tough competition in the Drury Classic next weekend (Mar. 5-6). The first game begins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday against William Jewell at Meador Park in Springfield.
