Valor Softball Splits Against NCAA D-II Schools on Saturday

Valor Softball Splits Against NCAA D-II Schools on Saturday

Box Scores: Game One | Game Two

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor softball returned to Springfield this weekend to take part in the Drury Softball Classic. Facing stiff NCAA D-II competition throughout the day, Evangel fought hard, taking down Nebraska Kearney, and ultimately falling to Northeastern Oklahoma State.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel capitalized on several Loper mistakes in game one, taking the victory, 6-5, in a tough matchup.

  • Micaiah Cordell started game one for Evangel and pitched well over three innings. Abby Jo Emmitt (3-3) was credited with the win, after coming in and shutting down the Lopers.

  • In game two, Evangel took on the Riverhawks of NEO. NEO grabbed a lead out of the gate and held on to it, taking down the Valor, 4-1.

  • Samantha Romano (1-1) pitched well for Evangel, only giving up two earned runs and fanned seven batters.

  • Throughout the day, Evangel used a team effort on offense to score runs, as eight different batters all recorded hits throughout the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evangel kicked off scoring in game one, thanks to an Josie Allcock single that scored Annslee Leeviraphan. Mariah Hanner then stole home to score the second run of the inning for EU.

  • Nebraska Kearney answered the Valor push, by scoring four runs in the fourth, two off of base knocks and another off of an error.

  • The Valor responded in the fifth, tying the game up with an Brooke Arnold single and a run scored on a Loper error.

  • Emmitt pitched lights out in relief, only allowing one run, while Evangel scored the go ahead run in the sixth on a Nebraska error to take the win, 6-5.

  • In game two, Northeastern Oklahoma began the game by scoring off two Valor errors. NEO singled twice to score runners while subsequent errors would score an additional two runs.

  • After NEO's big first inning, both teams spent several innings feeling each other out, as neither team scored again until the sixth inning, when Hanner doubled to score the first and only Valor run of the game.

  • Evangel was shut down in the final inning of their game with the Riverhawks, falling 4-1.

NOTABLE

  • Emmitt recorded her third win on the mound for Evangel, leading the team in wins so far this season. Emmitt also struck out ten batters, her most this season.

  • Eight different Valor players recorded hits on Saturday.
