Valor Softball Suffers Setback at MNU on Wednesday

Valor Softball Suffers Setback at MNU on Wednesday

Game One | Game Two

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Evangel Softball continued their stretch of games on Wednesday when they took on MidAmerica Nazarene in a doubleheader matchup. In game one, Evangel fell just short against the Pioneers as MNU walked it off in the bottom of the seventh, 5-4. Game two was similar to game one as MNU grabbed an early lead that the Valor narrowed down, but ultimately a late run for the Pioneers granted them the sweep of EU, 3-2.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Valor offense took a couple of innings to heat up as they began the game, trailing by four runs. EU quickly came roaring back, evening the score up, but fell as the Pioneers walked it off, 5-4.

  • In game two, Evangel and MNU battled, but a late run for MNU gave the Pioneers the win and sweep, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MidAmerica Nazarene used a big first inning to grab an early 3-0 lead after a three run home run.

  • The Pioneers tacked on another run in the bottom of the third after an error allowed a runner to get on base and later score on a double.

  • Evangel found their first run of the game in the top of the fourth after Brooke Arnold, who had doubled to get on base, was scored on a Megan Stone double to center field.

  • The Valor used a big top of the sixth inning to even the score after Annslee Leeviraphan doubled to score Karlie Romines and Cayleigh Berry cleared the bases when she blasted a two run home run over the left field wall.

  • In the top of the seventh, EU had two runners on base, but could not capitalize, stranding the go-ahead score on third base.

  • MNU loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and scored the game winning run on a single to the outfield.

  • In the second game of the afternoon, MidAmerica took an early 2-0 lead after four innings of play as EU could not manufacture any offense.

  • In the fifth inning, the Valor scored two runs to tie the game when Morgan Shockley singled to left field, scoring Kaydran Russell and Sydney Hill.

  • In the bottom of the sixth, MNU scored on a single to take the lead and closed the door on any EU comeback in the following inning.

NOTABLE

  • Berry hit her first career home run in game one to even the score at four apiece.

  • Shockley drove in the lone two runs for Evangel, her first two RBIs of the season.
