OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Evangel traveled to Oskaloosa on Sunday to take on the Statesmen of William Penn. Looking to rebound from being swept on Saturday, the Valor took charge and swept William Penn in two games full of Valor offense.
HIGHLIGHTS

The Valor, who had struggled on offense on Saturday, came up big on offense in game one, finishing the game with 10 hits on 10 runs, taking the game, 10-0.

Samantha Romano (5-3) had a great outing in the circle in game one, shutting out William Penn and only allowing a single hit, nearly pitching her second no-hitter of the week.

Game two was similar to game one on offense, as Evangel could not be slowed, run-ruling the Statesmen in six innings, 9-0.

Micaiah Cordell (2-3) recorded the win in game two, allowing just two hits, as Ashland Diggs pitched in relief and shut the door on William Penn.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Karlie Romines and Annslee Leeviraphan walked to get on base in the first, as Josie Allcock singled to score Romines. Ali Raley was hit by a pitch to add another runner on base in the first. Mariah Hanner singled to right center field, scoring both Leeviraphan and Allcock to give EU a 3-0 lead.

With Sarah Cummings on base for Raley and Hanner on second, Brooke Arnold singled up the right side, scoring both runners, giving Evangel a 5-0 lead.

Evangel cooled off in the next few innings until the fourth, when Arnold homered to right center, giving the Valor a 6-0 lead.

In the same inning, Romines singled to score Kaydran Russell, the seventh run for EU in game one.

Cummings used a double in the seventh inning to score Leeviraphan and Romines. Cummings also scored on the same play after an errant throw by William Penn's catcher, giving Evangel a 10-0 lead.

Romano continued her masterful performance on the mound, shutting down the Statesmen to complete the 10-0 victory.

In game two, Evangel scored Leeviraphan on a Cummings sacrifice bunt after Annslee singled to get on base.

Evangel used a big third inning, scoring five runs to grab a 6-0 lead. Sydney Hill walked and advanced to second on a Russell single. Abigail Posten doubled, clearing the bases for EU. Romines scored Posten on a similar double to Posten's. Romines scored on a WPU wild pitch and Leeviraphan capped off scoring by taking home on a dropped third strike.

In the fifth, the Valor added another run after Romines walked and made it home on a stolen base and an error.

Evangel finished their scoring in game two when Hill hit Hanner home. Romines continued her excellent day by singling to left, scoring Hill to cap off the 9-0 victory.
NOTABLE

Romines had a day at the plate, finishing her afternoon going 4-6 with four runs scored, three RBIs, and two walks drawn.

Romano gave up just one hit in game one, nearly completing her second no-hitter of the week in the circle.

Arnold hit her first home run of the season in game one.

Evangel combined for 21 hits over both games on Sunday.
UP NEXT
Evangel's matchup with Central Methodist tomorrow afternoon has been postponed until a future date to be announced. Valor Softball will return to the field on Wednesday on the road against Missouri Valley, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
