Valor Softball Continues Hot Streak, Downs Benedictine on Friday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After winning 12 of their last 14 matches, Evangel came into Friday's doubleheader matchups with Benedictine on a roll. In game one, the Valor capitalized on Benedictine's miscues and used strong offense to win, 10-5. Abby Jo Emmitt had a great day in the circle in game two, shutting out Benedictine and leading EU to a 4-0 victory and sweep of the Ravens, giving them eight straight victories.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel used nine hits and capitalized on five Benedictine errors to put up 10 runs in game one.

  • Samantha Romano (9-3) added another strong win to her resume in game one, her fourth of the week.

  • In game two, Evangel used a strong defense and timely hitting to push to a 4-0 victory.

  • Emmitt (9-5) recorded the complete game shutout victory, finishing with six strikeouts.

  • Coach Jordan Logan filled in on Friday evening and claimed her first two collegiate victories of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kaydran Russell kicked off game one by doubling to right center field and scoring on a Karlie Romines single up the middle.

  • Benedictine tacked on two runs in the top of the third, giving the Ravens a 2-1 lead.

  • Evangel answered the Ravens runs by using a big third inning to extend their lead. Morgan Shockley scored on a Megan Stone bunt single, after she came in to run for Brooke Arnold who had walked to get on base. Romines scored soon after on a Benedictine error and Abigail Posten scored Stone on another bunt single. Immediately after the single, Josie Allcock hit a single up the middle of the field, scoring both Posten and Hanner, giving EU a 6-2 lead.

  • Benedictine again added two runs in the following inning, but the Valor offense did not stop at just six runs. With Hanner on first after a bunt, Stone on second after a walk, and Romines on third via error, Posten singled, scoring Romines and extending the Valor lead.

  • Allcock continued her streak of excellent hitting, by smoking a double to the left field wall, clearing the bases and giving Evangel a 10-4 lead.

  • The Ravens added an additional run in the fifth, but Romano shut down Benedictine to lead EU to a 10-5 victory.

  • In the second game of the evening, both pitchers limited the offenses.

  • Evangel found their first runs of game two when Cayleigh Berry came in to hit in the third inning and scored Allcock on a bunt single. On the next at bat, Arnold singled, scoring Russell and giving Evangel a 2-0 lead.

  • Allcock scored in the fifth inning on a groundout and Stone scored on a Raven throwing error in the sixth to solidify the 4-0 victory for the Valor.

NOTABLE

  • Allcock went 2-2 in game one, finishing with a team high five RBIs.

  • Arnold finished her evening going 4-6 with two RBIs and a walk.

  • Evangel recorded six extra base hits on Friday evening.

  • Emmitt eclipsed 100 strikeouts on the season in game two.

Evangel will continue their homestand on Saturday against Missouri Valley, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 23) afternoon.
