CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After falling to the consolation bracket due to a loss to William Penn earlier in the day, Evangel knew that they could not afford another loss or their season would come to an end. Playing with the mentality of win or go home, Evangel came out strong in their matchup with Culver-Stockton, pulling out the victory, 5-3.

  • Samantha Romano claimed the win in the circle, moving to 12-5 on the season after pitching 4.1 innings and striking out two batters.

  • Abby Jo Emmitt claimed her second save of the season, pitching dominantly in relief as she allowed no hits and struck out five batters.

  • Kaydran Russell led the Valor offense by going 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

  • Culver-Stockton scored first in the game, on a single with two runners on, giving CSC a 1-0 lead.

  • In the following half inning, Evangel knew that they needed to wake the bats up on offense. Ali Raley singled and Morgan Shockley courtesy ran for Raley. Megan Stone and Josie Allcock both used patient at bats to force walks to load the bases. Russell came up big in her at bat, singling to score both Shockley and Stone. Russell then scored on a Culver error and finally Karlie Romines tripled to bring home Cayleigh Berry, giving EU a 4-1 lead.

  • In the bottom of the fifth, Culver-Stockton blasted a two run home run to make the game interesting as the Valor led by just a single run.

  • The Valor were able to tack on an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Berry reached on another Wildcat error and scored on an Abigail Posten groundout, making it a 5-3 game.

  • Emmitt shut down the Wildcat bats, striking out half of the batters she faced in the 2.2 innings she pitched. Emmitt's save on the mound pushed Evangel to survive another day with the win, 5-3.

  • Romano claimed her 12th win of the season in the game.

  • Russell's two RBIs were her 8th and 9th of the season.

  • Raley continued her hot day at the plate, finishing 3-4 in the game with a double.
