SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel women's basketball won its rematch with Grand View Saturday, 72-67, to cap Senior Day.
The Crusaders had to overcome a slow start on offense to win their fifth-straight game. They were never down by more than seven, but could never put together a run to take the lead over until midway through the second quarter, when they went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 27-26. From that point until the end of the second quarter, it was a back-and-forth affair with the Vikings coming out on top 38-36 at the halftime buzzer.
The Crusaders continued to battle and trade punches with the Vikings in the third quarter until Emma Lander made a jump shot with 53 secs left in the quarter to give the Crusaders the lead for good, 50-49.
The Crusaders would increase their lead to as many as nine in the fourth quarter, before finally winning by five, 72-67.
Junior Lexie Vaught led all scorers with 21 points, with Bri Vogts adding 11 pts off the bench. Vaught also led the Crusaders on the glass with 9 rebounds.
