OSKALOOSA, Iowa – A back and forth game saw the Evangel women's basketball team come up just short 78-75 in overtime on Saturday at William Penn.

Last year's Heart Champion, William Penn, got a three-point at the end of regulation to tie the game at 63-63. The overtime period saw the lead change nine times with four lead changes as a turnover with three seconds forced the Crusaders to foul.

The Statesmen knocked down four free throws in the final 12 seconds including two with 0:03 on the clock to take a 78-75 lead. Evangel would get a heave from half-court that would miss wide as the Crusaders fell for the first time in conference play to fall to 5-1.

A hot second half by the home team helped aid William Penn in its comeback. Evangel built a 29-22 lead at intermission ending the half on an 8-2 run. However, the Statesmen shot 58 percent from the field in the second half and out-rebounded the Crusaders 37-34.

Bayley Harman came off the bench to lead Evangel with 21 points as she knocked down six of the Crusaders 15 three-pointers. Alexis Cauthon added 15 points, while. Brianna Vogts finished with a double-double scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 boards.

William Penn's Brenda Pennington led all scorers with 24 points, as Kate Ylitalo added 16 points.

Evangel returns home Thursday for a non-conference matchup with College of the Ozarks. Tipoff from the Ashcroft Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
