Evangel Rally Comes Up Short At Culver-Stockton

CANTON, Mo. – The Evangel women's basketball team can't complete the comeback against Culver-Stockton and fall 91-86 on Saturday afternoon.  

The Crusaders overcame a slow start to the first quarter and led 25-20 heading into the second quarter, but the Wildcats picked up the tempo to lead the Crusaders by one at halftime. It was a back-and-forth game in the second half, with neither team able to put away the other. The Crusaders were on the front foot in the fourth quarter and the Wildcats had to keep playing catch up until 4:38 left in the game when the Wildcats were able to convert two free throws to give them the lead for good.

In the loss, Alexis Cauthon and Bayley Harman were lights out from beyond the arc, going 5-11 and 5-9 respectively. Cauthon led the Crusaders with 17 pts, while Harman had 16.

Lexie Vaught was one rebound and three assists away from a triple-double, finishing with 12 pts, 9 rebs, and 7 assists.

Brianna Vogts and Courtney Austin also finished in double figures for the Crusaders, scoring 12 pts and 10 pts.

Collectively, the Crusaders shot 42% from the field for the game.

Ryan Dooley from Culver-Stockton led all scorers with 21 pts, and the Wildcats had five players finish in double figures.

Evangel will head to Warrensburg, Mo. on Tuesday, Dec. 17 for an exhibition match against NCAA DII opponent Central Missouri. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
