ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A hot-shooting Evangel women's basketball team ran away with an 80-68 victory Monday night at Missouri Baptist in non-conference play.
The Crusaders knocked down 10 three-pointers in the first half to help build a 39-24 halftime lead. Freshman Alexis Cauthon paced Evangel with a season-high 31 points as she knocked down nine three-pointers, one shy of the single-game Evangel record.
Cauthon started the game 5 for 5 from downtown to help Evangel build its lead. As a team, Evangel knocked down 15 three-pointers, which was also one shy of a school record.
Evangel shot 50 percent from behind the arc and forced 17 turnovers while holding Missouri Baptist to 37 percent shooting from the field.
Lexie Vaught and Sadie Chisum also finished in double figures as Vaught added 14 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. Chisum tallied 12 points, while Kylee Moore added six points and 10 boards in her return.
Tionne Taylor led Missouri Baptist with 21 points as teammate Taylor Norris added 19 points.
Evangel returns to conference play at home on Saturday against Grand View. Tipoff from the Ashcroft Center is scheduled for 12 p.m.
