SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A strong defensive effort was not enough Saturday as the Evangel women's basketball team fell to No. 23 Grand View 64-49 in Heart Conference play.

The Crusaders led early 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. However, Grand View opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run and led at halftime 26-19.

Evangel forced 18 turnovers but a cold shooting afternoon saw the Crusaders shoot just 21 percent in the first half and 33 percent in the second half. Grand View answered to shoot 45 percent in the second half as the Vikings won for the eighth time in nine games.

Lexie Vaught led the way for Evangel with 13 points and eight rebounds as she also finished with five steals.

Bayley Harman and Brianna Vogts were also in double figures with 12 and 11 points each. Vogts came off the bench to finish with nine boards.

Grand View was led by Brianda Bane with 14 points off the bench as Jordan Kraemer also scored 13 points off the bench. Kraemer pulled down nine boards as the Vikings out-rebounded Evangel 48-40.

Evangel returns to action Wednesday at home against Benedictine. Tipoff from the Ashcroft Center is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
