OLATHE, Kan.  – The Evangel women's basketball team dropped a second consecutive game on the road Wednesday night, 70-61, at MidAmerica Nazarene in Heart Conference action.

The Crusaders fell to the .500 mark on the season at 8-8 and 6-5 in league play, while the Pioneers improved to 9-5 and 8-3 in the Heart.

Evangel jumped out to a brief lead 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. However, by intermission MidAmerica Nazarene had taken a 33-30 lead into the locker room. Both teams struggled from the field in the first half shooting below 40 percent.

In the second half, MNU opened up with a 12-2 run to build a 13-point lead just two minutes into the third quarter. The Pioneers continued to catch fire in the second half shooting 48 percent from the field while the Crusaders shot just 34 percent.

Senior guard Lexie Vaught posted a double-double to lead the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She also added four steals as the only Crusader in double figures.

MNU got 22 points from Whitney Clampitt as Megan Scott added 17 points and nine boards of the bench as well.

Evangel returns to the Ashcroft Center on Saturday to host Missouri Valley. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
