SPRINGFIELD, Mo.  – A great defensive effort on Saturday saw the Evangel women's basketball team runaway with a 73-55 win over Missouri Valley in Heart Conference action.

The Crusaders never trailed leading by as many as 25 points late in the third quarter. Evangel shot 45 percent from the field but held the Vikings to 32 percent for the game.

Alexis Cauthon paced the offense for Evangel going 6 of 8 from behind the three-point line. Cauthon finished with 20 points, while Emma Lander also finished in double figures with 12 points.

Evangel forced 26 Missouri Valley turnovers as Sadie Chisum tallied five steals and six assists. Lexi Vaught also recorded four steals and 10 rebounds in the win.

Missouri Valley was led by 10 points each from Ariel Miller and Demetria Heard.

Evangel returns to the road next Wednesday at Graceland to start the second half of league play. The Crusaders won the first meeting in Springfield, 60-53. Tipoff from Lamoni, Iowa is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
