SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel Crusaders look halt a three-game skid Saturday (Jan. 9), when they take on the Mount Mercy Mustangs in a Noon Heart of America Athletic Conference contest at the Hennessey Recreation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
SERIES HISTORY
The Crusaders have taken six straight meetings from the Mustangs since Mount Mercy won the first-ever game in the series in November 2016. Last year, EU cruised to a pair of comfortable wins over Mount Mercy, claiming a 77-56 victory in Cedar Rapids (Nov. 16), before routing the Mustangs by a 77-44 score in Springfield (Jan. 25).
OPENING STORYLINES
► Third-year head coach Megan Leuzinger enters Saturday's game with a career mark of 44-26 after guiding EU to its first NAIA National Tournament berth since 2011 last season.
► Junior Brianna Vogts leads the Heart of America Athletic Conference in rebounding (9.8 rpg) and ranks 31st nationally.
► Vogts also leads the Heart Conference in double-doubles (5); she has logged three double-doubles over EU's last five contests.
► Sadie Chisum ranks eighth in the Heart Conference in assists per game (3.3) after handing out a season-high seven assists vs. OLLU (Dec. 18).
► The Crusaders will be looking to snap their first three-game slide since December 2019; EU has dropped four-straight contests just once before under Leuzinger (Jan. 3-10, 2019).
► EU leads the Heart in assists/game (17.8), assist-turnover ratio (1.10) and rank second in free throw percentage (0.780).
