Records: Evangel (10-9, 6-3); Culver-Stockton (9-9, 3-6)

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Powered by Abby Wildermuth's season high 19 point game, the Evangel Valor pushed past the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton, 59-47, in Heart of America conference play on Saturday afternoon.

Both Evangel and Culver began the game trading baskets to start until Culver's Kaysie Newton nailed a jumper to give the Wildcats a 9-6 lead. Wildermuth answered the Wildcats basket with a three with 2:41 remaining in the first quarter to spark a Valor run. EU ended the quarter on a 10-5 run, consisting of another Wildermuth three and two consecutive jumpers by Zoey Mullings. Both Mullings and Wildermuth led the Valor with six points apiece at the end of the first, leading 19-14.

The second quarter consisted of more back and forth play between both teams. Alexis Cauthon began the scoring for EU, but Culver fought, cutting the EU lead to just two points. The Valor used a two minute span to fuel a 6-0 run, pushing their lead to eight. Culver and Evangel went basket for basket to end the quarter, and a Logan Jones three ended the half with the Valor on top, 34-27. Wildermuth continued to push the Valor with eight points.

Wildermuth kicked off the third quarter where she had left off, nailing another three. Evangel maintained a nine point lead with 5:10 remaining after Mullings nailed free throws, and from there the Wildcats took over. Culver used an 11-0 run to end the quarter to take a lead heading into the final quarter, 43-41.

The final quarter was all Evangel. Culver kicked off the fourth with a layup, pushing their lead to four points. But, the Wildcats grew cold and not score again until the last basket of the game. Evangel scored 18 unanswered points thanks to a dominant offense and relentless defensive play. It was Wildermuth who continued to lead the Valor, hitting a three and making an acrobatic and-one layup. The Wildcats ended the game with a jumper, but the damage was done as the Valor came away with a 59-47 victory.

The Valor had two players to score in double digits. Led by Wildermuth's 19, Mullings finished with a double-double stat line, tacking on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Lwambo finished leading EU in steals with four.
