BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Crusaders open up Heart of America conference play with a 2-0 shutout over Baker.

Amber Ellis and Alyson Reinold were the goal scores for Evangel in the match. Ellis found the back of the net in the 39th minute after a fantastic assist from Reinold. Reinold was able to find the back of the net herself in the 56th minute after there was a scramble in the box following a corner kick.

It definitely took a while for both teams to grow into the game. In the first half, there were only five shots between the two teams, but in the second half, there was nine. The Crusaders finished with 10 shots and seven on goal. Bianca Biffert had three shots and one on goal. Reinold had two shots on goal, a goal, and an assist.

Caitlyn Cox had two saves between the sticks for the Crusaders.

"What a great way to start conference!" said Coach Bruce Deaton after the game. "We had another great defensive performance, which led us to our fourth consecutive clean sheet and only allowing four shots this evening. We did a great job attacking together, leading us to two goals. I am so proud of our collective team effort this evening."

The Crusaders will return home on Saturday, September 21 to take on Mount Mercy. Kickoff is slated for noon.
