MARSHALL, Mo. – The Evangel women's soccer team continues their winning ways with a 2-1 defeat of Missouri Valley on Tuesday night.

The Vikings outshot the Crusaders in the first half 5-3, but the Crusaders were the ones to take the lead when in the 38th minute Amber Ellis was able to shake off her defender and fire home a shot. They continued this attacking mindset until the halftime whistle, and even after the second half started. In the 49th minute, Sedona Townsend sent up a beautiful shot that curled into the top left corner of the goal to double the lead for Evangel. The Vikings' keeper could do nothing but sit and watch the ball go in the back of the net.

This didn't deter the Vikings from trying to get back in the game, and in the 87th minute they were fouled inside the Crusaders penalty area to set up a penalty kick, which they were able to convert. However, they didn't have time on their side and were unable to find an equalizer before the final seconds ticked off the clock.

Head Coach Bruce Deaton had this to say following the match: "Each time we step on the field, these ladies continue to press to a new level. What a great match and a great win for our program. Both goals tonight were special. Amber Ellis battled through a defender and beat the keeper and then Sedona Townsend's goal in the second half was special. We defended very well against a very good team and adjusted our style of play to deal with their pressure. I am so proud of what this team continues to do each time they step on the field!"

This wasn't the best offensive night for Evangel as they only had five shots, with four being on goal, but they were able to do the most with their shots and that resulted in two goals. Bianca Biffert had two shots, while Ellis, Townsend, and Shannon Murphy all had one.

Caitlyn Cox played the full ninety minutes between the sticks and made five saves off six shots on goal.
