SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Evangel women's soccer blanked William Penn 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to highlight Senior Day at Coryell Field for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders' lone goal came in the 12th minute when Grace Wright passed the ball off the end line to a waiting Bianca Biffert who neatly slotted it home. From then the Crusaders had a number of chances, but they never were able to find the back of the net again.
"Nice win for our seniors today. We did a nice job of creating a number of scoring chances and outside a few post strikes and some very nice saves by their keeper, we may have increased the scoreline. I am very excited about how we defended. Goalkeeper Abbey Schmidt had a wonderful flying save to maintain the shutout and to post our fifth clean sheet of the season. This was definitely a very nice way to celebrate our seniors!" Head Coach Bruce Deaton commented following the match.
Abbey Schmidt played the entire game in the net for the Crusaders. She allowed no goals and had four saves.
Evangel heads to Kansas City on Tuesday, Oct. 13 to take on Heart newcomers, the Park Pirates. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
