Valor Women's Soccer Fights Hard, Falls to Nationally Ranked CMU

Valor Women's Soccer Fights Hard, Falls to Nationally Ranked CMU

The Basics

Score: Evangel 0, (8) Central Methodist 6 | Box Score

Record: Evangel (3-8-0, 0-5-0), (8) Central Methodist (8-2-1, 4-0-1)

Location: Fayette, Mo. (Davis Field)

FAYETTE, Mo. – Taking on the eighth ranked team in the nation on Wednesday night, Evangel Women's Soccer looked to hang tough with the Eagles. The Valor did just that, holding the high powered Eagles offense to just a single goal in the first half, but fell 6-0.

Evangel devoted the majority of the game on the defensive end, attempting to slow down Central Methodist's offense. The Valor fought and Chloe Hancock was able to stop several attempts at goals. The Valor defensive back line played well, not allowing much in the attacking end. By the time the first 45 minutes had run out, the Eagles had only scored a single goal.

In the second half, Central Methodist was finally able to break through the Valor defense, scoring an additional five goals over the final period. Evangel was able to get an offensive shot off in the last five minutes of the game by Samantha Elliott, but the attempt was blocked as Evangel fell, 6-0.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel was outshot by CMU.

  • Hancock finished with 10 saves in goal.

  • Elliott provided the lone Evangel shot of the night.

QUOTABLE

"Please don't let the final tally fool you, the ladies played an amazing game this evening!! While the scoreline shifted in that second half - I am so proud of our play. We played a very good game overall and played brilliantly in that first half. CMU has been the best side we have played this year and we played incredibly well against one of the best teams in the nation!! We defended so well together and played with heart, passion, and as a team," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "We played as we discussed prior to the game and for that I am so proud of this team. I look forward to how we will build from here and compete through this next phase of our conference schedule. This effort tonight will propel us going forward - the best is still yet to come!!"
