SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The unbeaten Evangel volleyball squad will put its 3-0 mark on the line Tuesday (Sept. 15) evening when it hosts Baker in a Heart of America Athletic Conference match-up at the Ashcroft Center. Tuesday's contest will be broadcast live in southwest Missouri on Mediacom (MC22).

  • The Crusaders swept the field of last weekend's Evangel Classic, posting straight-set wins over William Penn and Central Baptist, as well as a five-set victory against St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

  • Junior AVCA All-America libero Eryn Russell was named Heart Defender of the Week by the conference office after logging 90 digs over EU's three victories, good for an average of 8.18 per set; the Republic, Mo., product recorded a career-best 42 digs in the five-set win over STLCOP.

  • Senior Daisy Eklund also delivered a dominant weekend for the Crusaders, tallying 5.36 kills per set, while junior Tori Lowry posted back-to-back double-doubles to open the season.

  • Evangel is off to its second-straight 3-0 start to a season--its third such start in the last six seasons and its fifth overall during head coach Mary Whitehead's 21-year tenure.

Evangel will embark on its first road trip of the season this weekend, traveling to the Kansas City area for a Friday (Sept. 18) tilt with MidAmerica Nazarene (7 p.m.) in Olathe, Kan., followed by a Noon match Saturday against Park in Parkville, Mo.
